Dhingana 360

The awesome people at Dhingana have released a cool new widget to add to your blog/website. If you haven't ever heard of Dhingana before, here's your chance to see whats the fuss all about right here from this blog. The widget enables you to explore and listen to the top 10 songs in pretty much all genres in Indian music.

If you use Dhingana and/or this widget, do drop me a line in the comments – I'd love to know what you think about it.

    Hi Diwaker,

Thank you covering Dhingana’s 360Widget :) and adding it to your blog. One addition to your post above – Users can not only access the ‘Top 10′ songs but also the ‘Top rated random’ songs from all the categories/genre available on Dhingana i.e Movies, Oldies, Pop, Remixes, Ghazals, Bhajans and Marathi.

    Cheers,
    Dhingana Team.

Dhingana folks: can you clarify exactly how the “Top rated random” songs are selected? As in, are these random songs out of, lets say, the top 100 or something?

Indeed cool. It would be really useful if they could also allow searching for songs/albums in the widget using AJAX. It might preempt some users (at least the blog owner) from visiting their site, something they may not want, but i think will attract lot more new users and encourage lot more people to use the widget. Listening to just the top 10 or random 10 is not interesting enough for me to put up the widget on my blog yet!

    Hi Diwaker,

This is a cool widget man! Now I can read your blog and listen to some great songs at the same time. Really innovative!

    Hi Diwaker,

“Top rated random” songs are selected at random from a pool of all the songs that are rated 4/5 and 5/5 for a particular category.

    Nitin,

We do not have search on the roadmap as yet but we definitely have plans of enabling users to embed their own SmartLists or to cut the limits – any list of songs that they decide to listen using the Dhingana Player. Hopefully, that will make it more personal for you :)

    Ameet,

Some of our power users had requested a feature using which they can set the default genre to any category they choose. Like eg: you are interested in adding the widget on your blog because you love ‘Marathi’ songs. So we have now added a new feature where you can select the ‘default genre’ while embedding your widget. So if you select ‘Marathi’ as the default genre, then your widget will display “Top 10 Marathi Songs” by default :)

    Cheers,
    Dhingana Team

    @Dhingana Team,

Being able to listen to my selected smartlists will be awesome. I think I will put it on my blog then :).

Your concern for user-feedback is very impressive!

Another suggestion for Dhingana Team: Have you considered allowing users to upload their original songs, and let them play using Dhingana? Given your new widget, it will be really awesome. If copyrights are an issue, you may want to restrict that only the person who uploads the songs can make them available on his website using the widget; so the liability is still on the person.

    Hi Nitin,

Thanks for adding 360Widget on your blog. Sure, we are working on the next version of our widget which will have embedding SmartList support inbuild. In fact we are working on a couple of solutions to achieve this.

Yes, we do have plans to allow users to upload their songs, but they should be their own songs. In fact we are always open to users, who are aspiring artists, and who are looking for a good platform to publisize their talent. Dhingana will definitely help them in every way they can. However, at present we do not have any plans of allowing users to upload songs which they do not own. This is because we plan to reach a stage where we have hosted most the songs our users are looking for. We are looking for a more controlled content management system here.

    Hope this helps.
    Cheers,
    Dhingana Team

    Hey Diwaker and Nitin,

As we had promised, we have released a new version of our 360Widget. This widget will now allow you to display all your SmartLists in the widget using the “SmartLists mode”. Using this new mode, you can now share your SmartLists with your friends and visitors. We have also integrated mGreetings with the SmartList mode. So your users and visitors can in turn share your SmartLists with their friends too. We have also made some UI enhancements to the widget. So please grab the latest code from http://www.dhingana.com/360widget and let us know if you have any feedback.

    Cheers,
    Dhingana Team.

I am having DAP downloader. When ever I went to your site the song automatically downloaded. as .mp3 .wav etc are configured in DAP to downlaod.

Actually this is not happend earlier as you are using some sort of streaming. I downloaded sandeep khares most of the music.

I personally like your site. And I wants that site should be only for LISTEN ONLY site. Otherwise it will be download site only.

Its upon you but I feel that your goal of starting this website is not this.

    Hi Vijay,

Thanks for reporting this issue. Yes you are right. DAP should definitely not be able to download any songs from Dhingana. Infact we are surprised that it works for you. We did 2-3 tests yesterday with DAP and we were not able to download any songs.

Which version of DAP are you using and which OS is it? When did you see this issue last time? Does it happen for all the songs that you play?

    Thanks,
    Dhingana Team.
