In a recent 99 percent invisible episode -- Person in Lotus Position -- Roman Mars and producer Mark Bramhill sign off with "Namaste", which they say (I'm paraphrasing, since I couldn't find episode transcripts anywhere) is a popular greeting in Yoga studios here in the US and colloquially means "Hello".
Now, that's not inaccurate per se. A fuller meaning can be understood by looking at the etymology: नमः (Namah) + ते (you), literally translating to "I greet you". A more formal variant is नमस्कार (Namaskar), where the same root joins with the suffix कर (Kara), which means "to do".
I'll leave with a more poetic version: "The light within me, greets the light within you" (not unlike the "I see you" of the Na'vi)
